Mom's Cakes

So, many posts ago when I was blogging about cakes while watching Cake Boss (when I still had TLC :( boooo), I mentioned that my Mom makes pretty awesome cakes. Since as I told you, I have been going through all my old pictures on my external hard drive and found photos of a good bunch of them. So here they are!

Button Bouquets.

In my many blogs I follow, I have quite a few wedding blogs. I have seen recently a few weddings with button bouquets - yup that is right, buttons instead of flowers. An interesting twist. I think they are pretty cute and creative looking. I don't know if I would actually use them in my wedding - but it would be cool for the rehearsal maybe? They last forever unlike real flowers and could be a neat keepsake. Definitely for the "crafty-inclined" and also look fun to make. They could also be used as home decorations...hmmmm. But, buttons can get pricey unless you collect buttons or find a good deal, so that is something to thing about. Here are a few I found in a google image search:

Avatar Wedding.

Yes, I posted before about how I think Avatar is awesome and I love the ambiance of Pandora. I am a sucker and bought it on Thursday when it came out on DVD! I thought I would make an inspiration board of Avatar transformed into a wedding theme. I love the colors in Pandora at night, it is beautiful, the contrast of the dark night against the glowing purples, teals and blues. This is not my best inspiration board, but one I put together with images from a google image search. I apologize the the lack of credits and links. I am going to try for more of that in the near future. Take a look:

Happy Birthday Post-Its

On my ride to work today, the radio told me today was the 30th Birthday for Post-Its. I love post-its and use them basically every day. Thought I would share this stop-motion video I stumbled across a month or so back. Pretty awesome. Probably expensive too lol. Enjoy:

I heart fireworks.

So, not many posts lately...whats up with that? Ok, so I read somewhere recently (not like I needed to read somewhere to realize this) that you can free up space (duh) and speed up your computer if you go through and delete unnecessary photos. This is kind of a no brainer, but after years and years of ridiculously many photos - my friends and family will vouch for me, I have quite a plethora of pictures. And so, for the past week, all the time spent on my computer has been going through albums deleting duplicate photos, pictures of the floor, blurry images, close-ups of people's noses, etc...you get the picture. And I am stillll not done- but, I thought I would take a moment to share a new post. As I was going through photos from my last semester of college, I came across these photos I took at the Lakewood Blueclaws game last spring. The game was sponsored by my school (Georgian Court University) and also happened to be a fireworks night - such a fun time! I loveee fireworks, and anything firey at that :) So, I thought I would share these photos with you. Long shutter, good stuff. Not the best, but still fun. Oh and BTW, I am researching new cameras - SO EXCITED :) Enjoy the pics!

Marcel Wanders

I would like to share with you a "Interior Designer", Marcel Wanders I just stumbled across. I was looking online to see what exhibits are around at different museums and was on the Philadelphia Museum of Art website where I saw there was an exhibit for this guy Marcel Wanders - I feel like I saw one of his chairs when I was at the museum in May... His things looked neat so I decided to google him. I came across his website and he has done some awesome interiors and exteriors AND architectural designs. He also has branched out in to the consumer market with a line of trendy cookware that was sold at Target this past winter. Here are just a few of my favorite rooms of his. Some of his style is a little too modernly-out-there for me, but I like most of it! I am a big fan of his damask prints and colors. And, I do always love a chandelier ;)

Edward Hopper.

I would like to share with you another one of my favorite artists, Edward Hopper. I first came across Hopper in 5th grade english class surprisingly. Each of us was given a postcard with a painting on it and we had to write a fiction story based on the image we saw. I was given "New York Movie" and I remember writing about the attendant girl in the right of the painting. She was poor and worked two jobs for a living (wow sounds ironic HA) but oh the mind of a 5th grader. Here is the painting:

This one is just a classic:

This one is not my favorite, but I think it is cute, I like the colors and it reminds me of lunch in NYC :)

This one just makes me feel all summery and happy inside:

This is my absolute favorite Hopper painting. This one reminds me of "The Notebook", the scene when Noah and Allie are on his fathers porch on that summer night. I love summer nights and I feel that this painting grasps the full essence that is summer nights :

What do I like most about Edward Hopper? His use of lighting in his paintings is amazing!

Stairs.

I thought I would share some architectural artistic inspiration. I received an email from my Aunt a few months ago with a bunch of crazy/cool staircases. Some practical, some futuristic - all very neat. Here are just a few:

Adhemas Batista's Roogle Wine Packaging

I was introduced to Adhemas Batista, a designer, a few years ago. He is an awesomely fantastical designer and he even uses the phrase "I'm Selling Colors" to describe himself. Not only did he get a new website which is pretty nifty, but while parusing his new portfolio I came across these Wine Bottle designs. I would like to make a post soon on cool wine bottle packaging, but until then check these out. I am sure you will enjoy them!

BMW Art Cars.

BMW art cars - I would like to know HOW I did not know about this? Two of my favorite things: BMWs and art...I am a "fan" of Jeff Koons on Facebook and an article popped up on my news feed. Jeff Koons is making the next BMW art car. His design looks pretty sweet but I can't wait to see when it is actually painted on to the car. I found photos of the other cars that were painted. I was interested to find cars painted by famous artists such as:
Calder

Stella

Lichtenstein

Warhol

...I generally like all of these artists but I don't love any of these designs. I think the one I like the most of these is Lichtenstein's, but I do enjoy seein each of their take and style on the cars. Here are some of the less, well-known artists (in my book) painted cars:
Kayama

Chia
Penck

Here is the design of the soon-to-be Jeff Koons BMW art car!

Wood is where it is at.

Have you noticed the trend of wood? Haha that sounds funny....a trend of wood, but for real! I have seen wood everywhere that wood usually is NOT. Its a big deal on the web and in design I have noticed as of the past year or so I would say. I am a big fan of it as you can tell by my wallpaper :) ....my company's website www.sidesmedia.com and it is even going in to the crafting world. Love it! Check 'em out.

Sky Lanterns.

Sorry, I have been slacking. Finally got a little more of a breather this and last week, and I have been relaxing so I haven't posted anything although I have been reading other blogs! So here it is. I don't know what made me think of this, but a few years ago I came across pictures of these things called "Sky Lanterns". People use them at all sorts of events but they are most known at different Asian festivals. I think they are awesome, I love fire and fireworks and this is a very cool alternative. I would love to have these at my wedding some day...if I can't have fireworks ;) Haha. Here are some photos. These are not the BEST pictures but I think they show the lanterns well. You can get them in different colors too!
